The Godfather, 1972, Drama
Plot: A crime kingpin seeks to maintain control while his family begins the slow descent into corruption.
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, 2011, Action
Thoughts: A great animated movie, but definitely not DC’s finest work. Of course this movie was made to help amp up the then coming soon Green Lantern movie and I must say that it did a decent job of giving background information about some of the characters you’ll see in the film. The animation is standard DC animation and the stories have good pacing to them. It felt like a more lighthearted version of Gotham Knight.
Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs
Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs, 2008, Comedy
Plot: A weird tentacled creature seduces everyone on earth to get them to move in to their place.
Thoughts: Another good Futurama movie but it went on a little too long. It never really felt like a movie to me, but more like a 90-minute episode. The jokes were spot on for most of the movie. I really appreciate the writers’ cleverness and understand that going from 23-minute episode to 90-minute feature. This is a movie to watch for the Futurama fan, but if you’re not big on the series you may want to Redbox something else.

A Bug’s Life
A Bug’s Life, 1998, Family
National Geographic: Super Croc
Super Croc, 2002, Documentary
Plot: The precursor to the “Ultimate Crocodile” doc, this movie went into detail about a specific crocodile that didn’t walk with the dinosaurs…it ate them.
Thoughts: The above taglined was over used and the documentary got really boring about 2 minutes into it. The information probably would have been more fascinating had I not seen “Ultimate Crocodile” just prior. Still decent.

Ultimate Crocodile
Green Lantern Corps
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, 2011, Action
Plot: Stories of the most popular Green Lanterns told the Corp’s newest recruit.
Thoughts: Why couldn’t the live action movie be EXACTLY like this one. Good balance of the characters and you really get a feel for the world (more aptly, Universe) that all of the Corps’ members inhabited. The voice acting was stellar and the harmony between comedy and drama really capped this movie off well. DC does it again with its stupendous animated movies.

The Warrior’s Way
The Warrior’s Way, 2010, Action
Plot: The most dangerous assassin in Asia seeks to get away from his past by moving to the Wild West where he battles a tyrant who oppresses a local group of carnies.
Thoughts: Way too much green screen and post-production backgrounds for my taste. The action was off the chain and the gun fights were like I’d never seen before. I didn’t know what to expect from this movie, but I was pleased with the outcome of the film. The story was intricate but a little cliche. Great movie for action and kung-fu junkies.

Scorched
Scorched, 2003, Comedy
3 employees of a small bank decide to individual plan to rob their own bank.
Thoughts: A mildly entertaining movie, it feature Q from the Bond films as well as Woody Harrelson. I thought the acting was good and the story was clever. The cuts in the film were interesting and the camera angles really worked for the film.
3.6/5
Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America: The First Avenger, 2011, Action
Plot: The origin story of Marvel Comics’ Captain America and his battle against his arch-foe the Red Skull and his Hydra army.
Thoughts: This was a well done adaptation of one of the most underrated superheroes in the comic industry. It was about integrity, honor, and doing what’s right. The cinematography not once felt like this should have been just a superhero flick, but was true to the era in which it takes place.
Of course Hugo Weaving was his usual awesome self and Chris Evans surprised me as he showed off more of his range. This movie really gave the comics justice and I will definitely be adding this to the blu-ray/dvd rotation.
